What are Collaborative Research Networks (CRN)?
The CRNs were set up in 2004-2005 as part of the University Research Strategy, which defines nine overarching, interdisciplinary Research Themes and four Enabling Technologies building upon existing areas of excellence in the university. The aims of the thirteen CRNs are to match these Themes and Technologies and to stimulate and foster the relevant areas of studies by coordinating activities that promote collaborative research internally and externally.
What is the Heritage, Cultural Production and Interpretation Network about?
Most people have a sense of their own identity and culture, whether consciously or subconsciously. Many of us consume culture and heritage as well. Researchers working within this CRN are therefore interested in understanding what 'heritage' and 'culture' really mean, now and in the past, and how history, art, literature, drama, music, language and the physical world all shape, and are shaped by, different societies. The scope of the network is global and covers prehistory to the present day.
With over 250 full-time researchers in this network Birmingham is able to support internationally respected research on issues which include:
Globalisation, global and local cultures
Material culture and visual representation
Composition, performance and image
War and conflict
Literary study
Religion and society
Heritage Management
Media and Film
The Heritage CRN has been set up to initiate, promote and maintain inter-disciplinary research around the research theme of Heritage, Cultural Production and Interpretation.
We offer:
